On Tuesday, May 20 voters in Groton approved the school district’s 2008-2009 budget, 210-145.
A proposition to establish a capital reserve fund for the district to cover construction costs and another to purchase two school buses and one van for the district also passed.
Groton school board incumbents Martha Smith, Chris Montreuil and Jeanne Petrella were also all re-elected, as they ran unopposed.
The budget will increase the tax levy by 4.9 percent. Superintendent Brenda Myers said that without the capital project the levy would have only increased 2.28 percent.
The capital project Myers is referring is a $14.47 million building renovations project approved by voters in October of 2006.
